Ticking – Music Visualization with After Effects:

For this project, we selected a song that would be exciting to visualize audiovisually. Through analysis using notation, a word cloud, a mood board, and morphological boxes, we defined suitable shapes, colors, and movement patterns for the animation.

My main task was creating the animations in After Effects, together with Rike. We worked closely to develop the animation step by step. In the final phase, my focus was on optimization, editing, credits, and designing the poster.

Our story begins with a single triangle that multiplies, forming an alliance with many others to convey stability. But time and again, it is attacked by individual elements and slightly damaged. In the end, it disintegrates and continues on its own as a single triangle once more.

Word Cloud

Wir sammelten Wörter, die das Lied beschrieben, und platzierten sie so, dass ihre Zusammenhänge sichtbar wurden. So konnten wir die wesentlichen Eigenschaften des Songs herausarbeiten.

Notation

By carefully scoring each track, we were able to assign a specific behavior to every sound.
It was important to match the tones with fitting characteristics based on the keywords we had previously developed in the word cloud.

Analysis

During the analysis, we focused on identifying key features in specific moments and labeling them as important reference points for the animation.

Morphological Box

We combined collected words with shapes to develop ideas for animations and motion behavior. This helped us define clear visual characteristics and dynamics.

Animation

We created the entire animation in After Effects, including all camera movements and cuts. Clean and precise execution was important to us. Based on our sound analysis, we animated each movement to feel natural and rhythmically in tune with the audio.

The Poster

The poster picks up on the grid we created and used throughout the project, translating it into a static format.
It reflects our attention to detail and captures the essence of the animation without directly copying it.
